Review on High Point PCI Express RocketU 1144D by Todd Phillips

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Finally one that works with Unraid Windows 10 VMs

5 months upgrade - downgraded from 5 stars to 3 stars. USB controller works great!. until you need to restart or shut down the virtual machine. Although USB controllers claim to support RESET, they do not appear to be fully compliant with the specification and therefore do not conform. When your VM restarts, it takes a long time to load and then behaves strangely. requires a host reboot. However, it seems that if you want the best possible experience, you will wait and look for the Sonnet Allegro Pro. I bought this card for a very specific case of using separate controllers (this card has 4) for a VM in Unraid.TL;DR Works. For the long version. There are currently only a few PCIE cards with multiple USB controllers on the market. The Sonnet Allegro Pro used to be the card of choice, but the 4-controller version 3.0 has been replaced by the 2-controller version 3.1, which is currently for sale. This card doesn't work very well. The StarTech that most of us used to buy recently underwent a hardware overhaul, and the new model now has trouble moving individual controllers to VMs in unraid (at least on Windows 10). FINALLY everything works with this card. As expected, 4 ASMEDIA controllers are used. I used vfio-pci.ids=1b21:1142 in Syslinux configuration to prevent Linux from using the device and enabled PCIe ACS override for "Both". After completing these two simple steps, each controller is in its own IOMMU group and can be easily transferred to virtual machines. My monitors have USB 3 hubs built in and they work like a champ!
