Before buying I read the reviews. I'm a retired techie so I wasn't intimidated by the problems some buyers had, especially as previous buyers had documented detailed restoration procedures. Like many others, I experienced a failed Windows 10 installation. As soon as I turned on my device, I was thrilled to see that Windows 10 loaded seemingly fine. However, it fell to a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) very soon and told me that a reboot was required. It soon turned out that what I had was actually a "Brick". Following the advice of others, I went to the Microsoft website, found and downloaded a full image of Windows 10 Surface 3 (you need your device's serial number for this) and installed it on a flash drive. I then booted the Surface into the console screen (by pressing the power button and volume up + ) and reinstalled the OS from the stick. As soon as I had a working copy of Windows 10, I immediately ran the update utility to bring the OS up to date and I haven't had any issues since. It's a very inexpensive way to get a great little tablet, but it's not for the faint of heart. I purposely waited a month or two before writing this review to make sure I didn't run into other issues. I use this thing every day and it works as well or better than my laptop. It's gradually replacing my Kindle, complementing my laptop, and serving as a great tool for taking notes in meetings. So in short. yes it worked. No, it wasn't easy. Be prepared to put in a lot of work to get it working. However, for me it was worth the time and effort to get a quality tablet. PS: Do yourself a favor and install as large a micro SD card as possible. 4 gigabytes of RAM doesn't leave much after installing Windows 10.
