thin + dirty! in canopies and bed curtains

thin/flexible frame soiled! All surfaces are covered in soot (including my hands after picking up a few pieces). what is this substance Is graphite intentionally (albeit overused) used to reduce metal-to-metal friction during assembly? Production residues of something potentially toxic? gave a star higher than the bottom because the frame is freaky but flimsy + dirty override freaky
