Review on Marmot Women's Precip Jacket: A Gemstone in Women's Clothing for Coats, Jackets & Vests by Javarie Malick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the winner!

This was the best of the 7 waterproof jacket brands/styles I tried. (Others included North Face Resolve 2, Resolve Plus and Ventura, Black Diamond Stormline, Columbia Arcadia II (solid color and printed, which were slightly different), and Patagonia TorrentShell.) Marmot Pre-Cip adjustable hood tucks into collar when not in use ( a big plus), and the two-piece collar and hood feel more open while still offering more coverage than the one-piece versions. This jacket is very light and fits compactly in its own pocket, ideal for travel. This is partly because it lacks the mesh lining found in some other jackets. But that is not necessary, because it doesn't stick to the skin and doesn't stick when the temperature rises, it's water-repellent but still very breathable. This is one of the few (along with the Patagonia TorrentShell) that had desired (medium) length sleeves. (The North Face, Black Diamond, and Columbia models were all long.) The sleeves are also easily adjustable with Velcro. The overall fit is good, but you can throw on a sweater or down jacket if it gets chilly. (I'm 5ft 5in, 118lbs, and the small one fits me well. The medium one also worked and might fit over my Patagonia NanoAir jacket. But since I'll be wearing it more spring/summer/fall, and the MED sleeves are making an appearance me a bit long so I chose the small ones.) This jacket also comes in a nice colourway for those who want to brighten up a rainy day.

Pros
  • Protection and ease of use for every product. The PreCip jacket has fully taped seams to prevent leakage and taped storm flaps over the zips to keep moisture out. Zippered pockets provide quick storage for your personal items.
