I put it in a kennel about 3 weeks ago when it was still half warm. I attached the pad (hard plastic, btw) to the bottom while screws and washers hold it in place. This eliminated slippage and, for the most part, the ability for dogs to move or remove the pad. I rerouted the string in the metal case along the back groove so the dog wouldn't play with it and drilled a hole in the side of the pot for the string to run through. model you need to drill to place the cable correctly. After the installation there were some very cold days and nights. I have to say that the pillow serves its purpose of heating the house and the straw in the house. Yes, I still use straw bedding because it keeps me warm in our cold Northeast Ohio climate. I definitely noticed the temperature difference and found that on very cold nights when I bring him, the dog is warm when he leaves the house. As long as I bring her in because I can, she really could stay out if she did. Winter just got easier with the purchase of a heated bowl for my dogs!
