This is my first digital caliper. I have used dial and standard vernier types for many years. Digital is a lot more fun, and I wanted to use it more often than the ones it replaces. but as far as I understand the weight depends on the strength of the structure. Due to the weight, one-handed operation can be a little awkward, but that's a very minor downside. I have no idea how the digital head will hold up in my toolbox, but it comes with a nice little storage pouch to keep it powered on when I'm not using it, just in case. Accuracy? Just right for my needs. If you need NASA accuracy, expect a little (!) more money out of your pocket. Functions and use? Switching between metric and imperial systems is very easy. It also does fractions, which poses another problem: the accuracy is high enough that the fractions are a bit more granular than you'd like if you've never used them before. All in all I am very satisfied with the purchase.
