I would call it a professional lens for enthusiasts with a good sense of quality that will give you great shots. Dollars on the Canon Nikon, etc versions, use the money saved on even more gear. It really is that good. The few negative reviews I read turned out to be bullshit, probably written by people who convinced themselves that the only way to get good recordings was to spend the maximum amount that the big operators know about. I'm sure there are the occasional accidents caused by damage along the way, or maybe camera firmware incompatibilities that are known to happen to third party lenses from time to time, but after all the research I've done before have, so maybe these people who are struggling should upgrade their camera. OS operation can be a bit annoying/noisy for some but that's normal with Sigma lenses, it's a gyroscope which stabilizes some of the lens elements. I got sharp shots at 1/20, it's very effective, but it also depends on how stable you are. minimum focusing distance. The only downside that cannot be avoided with any proprietary converter is the stop loss, x2 converts to f5.6 and 140-400mm, which is not bad at all. For those wondering, this lens changes focal length internally, so the advertised length is good for all ranges. The lens hood is quite long at 4.25 inches. Add another inch if you need to use the included aps-c extension. You need a good lens in your bag, not a military-ready look, don't spend the money you save on something better, and are glad you did.
