This Stens 135-226 Spark Plug Cap (or Housing) cost me $6.95 to repair my 2009 Craftsman 24" Snowblower for $606.95! It is sold by Powered by a 179cc Powermore engine. Among many brand names (Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, Remington and many more) you will see the "Craftsman" brand which is similar to all Chinese made Powermore engines used in MTD products are used. I also have a Powermore engine in my 2015 Craftsman rear engine mower. Both engines have a spark plug boot with a metal housing that covers everything (I will try to attach photos. Look inside and you will see a rubber boot that is tight appears to be connected to the spark plug wire. These boots can be a real pain to remove a buried spark plug by the way.My snow blower has worked great for 8 seasons ert and I was religious about maintenance. In the ninth winter he inexplicably stopped and died every time I turned on the snail. I disassembled the carburetor and it's clean. I cleaned something but to no avail. I was able to turn the auger on slowly and it worked fine, but when I quickly pushed the lever it stopped every time. This, of course, happened during the worst winter storm we have seen in years. I couldn't get this behemoth in the store and didn't want to invest $200-$300 on a 9 year old car, so I bought a new, smaller one for $600. peeked into the situation again and pulled out the spark plug even though the engine was running fine. After removing his metal-wrapped boot, he fell to the ground! It wasn't a rubber boot, it was hard plastic. It cracked and there were slight burn marks where the arc rested on the metal cover. I took the trunk to my (fairly knowledgeable) local mower/snowblower dealer but he had no idea. They don't normally work with Powermore engines and might as well have been brought back from Mars. He gave me a regular spark plug wire clamp and said to try it. Otherwise I would have had to buy the whole coil (see photo: coil assembly) for about $70 and see if that was my problem. It would be a lot of work to take it apart, or if it got pulled out it would still cost around $250 to fix. IF it was my problem with the snail. Hours of searching on the internet brought no answer. Well, about a half inch of the plastic end was still attached to the connector wire. - Went to shoot it and it opened easily with a threaded screw built into the end of the hard plastic case. I'm a baby boomer who, like many people, is used to the little rubber spark plug boots on Briggs & Stratton engines. This item was very alien to me, my friends, and my local shop. It turns out to be a HONDA style spark plug boot. Yes, I knew the engines were supposedly Honda clones. This Stens cap looked like a possible answer, so I decided to invest another $6.95 into the problem and see what happens. It worked great, took 30 seconds to install and the snowblower started right away. Problem solved. And Stens is a better design than the original. If you look at it, it has a built in handle that you can use to remove the spark plug boot. I might add some tape to protect it from the muffler heat. I'm going to install one of these to replace that pathetic metal cover on my mower in the spring because it's also a hassle to remove. Long story short, if you have an MTD Powermore motor with a long metal cover attached to a hard-to-reach connector, this could solve the problem. Heed my dear lesson: even if you don't already have a cracked spark plug boot, replace it with this one to make replacing your spark plug easier. At least I now have a single-stage snowblower paired with a two-stage snowblower so I can choose the best one for the situation. And all my neighbors can thank me that from January to April we will probably have little if any snow!
