Review on Auto Meter 2306 Autogage Tachometer by David Norwood

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great but not perfect

I installed this on my 1996 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 speed transmission that didn't have a factory tachometer. I was looking for a used speedometer, but didn't want to put one on my truck with a ridiculous number of miles. The Autometer was larger than similar speedometers, but more closely matched the standard cluster and standard speedometer range. Since I don't have a factory clock I used clock power, ground and a dimmer to wire the speedo. I connected the speedometer signal wire to the wire harness on the back of the instrument panel, not to the engine control unit like other people have done. The tachometer works well, reads accurately and quickly. Some reviewers note that it doesn't always reset to zero when the ignition is turned off, which is true, but this is noted in the instructions and isn't an issue as it resets the next time the car is started. The only problem I have with the sensor is that the face is offset a few degrees: when sitting on a flat base, the entire sensor rotates a few degrees to the left. It cannot be adjusted to compensate due to its construction. In general, I would buy this touch again.

  • Replacement parts
Cons
  • Some little things
