Wobbly but complete kit

These are the dimensions of the drill bits and tools needed for installation in red oak. Increase the bit size by 1/64" when installing in hardwoods such as maple or granadillo. When installing in soft woods such as pine or spruce, reduce the drill size by 1/64. 64 for the 4 screws holding each panel, 1/4" for the 2" screw that goes in, 7/16 for the threaded insert that goes in the leg, and an 8mm (or 5/16" ) hex key for insertion. The 7/16" bit can pose a problem if you have a 3/8" drill bit and the shank of the bit is not turned down. I ran into this problem so I did used a 7/16 cutter, which isn't the best solution. My legs are 28" long, so they won't fit in a bench drill. I suggest using a 7/64" bit (not 7/16!) too and use it to drill a pilot hole in the axis of the leg. If you're drilling horizontally, your drill may have a bubble level that will allow you to drill more or less straight. If you're using a 7/16" blade, drill to insert a 1/2" deep hole. Then drill a 1/4" hole 1 3/4" deep as most of the 2" screws should go in the leg. Wrench that is much larger than most standard key ring hex wrench sets. I used two standard SAE 1/2" nuts to secure the threads so I can drive this 2" bolt in with a set of box wrenches (a 13mm 1/2" wrench works well) . Technically, it's not actually a hanging bolt that has metal threads on one side and wood threads on the other. However, the problem with locknuts is that the plate is only 1/4" deep, so you only have to leave 1/4" of the bolt protruding from the leg insert. The two nuts are 1/2 inch long so I had to use pliers to grab the threaded portion of the bolt and push in. Doesn't appear to have damaged the threads but be careful (I wouldn't use a vise for this) if the screw is too loose inside the socket you can try threadlocker like Locktite or even superglue. When attaching the bracket, mark the 4 holes and the center with a marker pen. 7/64" for 4 small holes. It would be advisable to use a medium sized screwdriver and insert the screws by hand rather than using a cordless screwdriver to avoid damaging the screw heads and stripping the threads of the holes. quaint .I used them to connect four 1 1/2" legs. to a 3/4" thick red oak round table. I have previously tried the mounting hinges sold here at Revain and found the table to be wobbly but otherwise sturdy. I was hoping these leg ties would work better. When bolted down , the platters only touch the legs about 1" in diameter. The table was perhaps a little less wobbly than the articulated setups, but still not perfect. I wanted the legs to be either removable or fold-under, although all tables wobble a bit, am I'm not entirely happy with this solution.Since I first checked this I've noticed that Waddell leg mounts are sold here at Revain (and at Lowe's. They have 4 mounting plates which are wider. and has a larger and flatter bearing surface for the top of the leg. Although it has a set of 16 screws to attach the plates, you will need appropriate 5/16-18 threaded inserts tze and 5/16-18 bolts will make using waddells much more expensive but much more efficient.

Pros
  • US LEG CONVERSION - If your sofa legs are pre-drilled for M10 hanging bolts, these plates allow you to use the standard 8mm to convert to US legs by simply fitting these mounting brackets with a hole in the furniture frame fasten .
Cons
  • No Instructions
