Review on Rechargeable 16V Battery by Shawn Reiter

NEW LIFE FOR GREAT OLD RYOBI DRILL!

I have an old Ryobi drill from the days when a Ryobi actually had some quality to it. It included 2 built in levels, 2 clips for spare bits, and a magnetic plate for holding screws. Try finding these features on a new drill! Unfortunately back then rechargeable's were all nickel-cadmium which lost power just sitting around and the run time decreased with every charge until they were worthless. I looked at Ryobi replacement batteries but the cost was prohibitive--better off buying a new Lithium Ion drill. Saw NiMH replacements on Best Buy and it seemed like the way to go. Got my first replacement that claimed to be NiMH but when I got it label said it was NiCd. Back it went. This battery looks to be the real deal. Charged up in my high quality Ryobi charger with no problems and fits perfectly into my old Ryobi drill. Unfortunately I can't test the power or even know for sure that it isn't just another NiCd but I have no reason to doubt that it is what it says it is. If the battery really is a 3,000 mAh, then my drill is better than new for the price of this battery.

Cons
  • The cost of the rechargeable battery could be relatively expensive compared to other available options, which may be a deterrent for some consumers
