So, for you who have never done a "bare" crimp. This will test your patience. I haven't found any instructions with this tool and trust me when I say they will be invaluable. When you purchase an insulated connector crimping tool, the tool comes pre-calibrated so you can drill into your project without packaging. It's not like this. On the left side of the tool is a set screw (careful, it's tiny) set to "I'm useless and wouldn't crush my finger if you stuck it there". After wasting a few connectors, I advanced the wheel point by point until I found one that would work. In my case it was 5 spaces from where it starts. 2. and nobody tells you that. You want to watch your terminal enter the matrix. The reason is that if you, like me, are used to crimping insulated "never fail” connectors, you will be in for a rude awakening. If attempting to operate the tool with one hand, hold the wire to be crimped with the connector attached in one hand and the ratcheting tool in the other hand. It slips and slides and doesn't work properly, or the terminal just falls off while you're thinking about the perfect crimp. I was told to place the connector in the tool so that it is properly aligned and will not slip or fall out, then insert the wire and squeeze. I spent 25 connectors trying to figure it out and in the end YouTube gave me the best guide. 3. There are two tabs on the crimp connector: 1 for bare wire 2 for wire insulation. This means two passes in crimping machines for each terminal. You'll understand what I mean when you try to connect the terminal to the cable for the first time. both cable lugs to be crimped cannot enter at the same time. Again, if you're used to insulated tweezers. that's a squeeze and you're done. that's two!4. How good is your knowledge of the metric system? These pliers are marked with some kind of metric measure that could very well be Chinese to me! After a little guesswork, it's not hard to know which connectors go with which chips. I never had metrics, never will. It just never worked! This tool was designed to achieve a factory crimp on your own workbench, so practice makes perfect. As with art media, achieving the perfect crimp takes practice. Patience and attention to each method you try will lead you to success faster. The bottom line is that I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I know that direction and, even better, a mentor to show me the ropes will go a long way in getting things done. Success. Without her, I'm like a baby with a gun in one hand and a bullet in the other. bad things happen! Take your time. They are more difficult to use than standard insulated crimping tools. I would describe the tool itself as "medium". But I'm new to this and I think some instructions would have saved me money on the connectors I blew trying to figure it out. The tool seems solid, not a delicate flower. In the end it will do the job. I took points off for having to make special connections to the relays and not knowing how it works the tool got me out of the day's wiring. Maybe you are smarter and do better!😉Happy shopping!7
