My first one was bought in late 2008 and used 4 or 5 times a month. It finally broke this morning when I was trying to open a badly sealed lid on a jam jar. Four years of use for less than 20 euros: Yes, I definitely got my money's worth. My first one could be a bit "fussy" at times, but it ALWAYS worked great on everything from brine jars to canned food. Plus, it's pretty specific when it comes to battery performance. So keep that in mind if you use yours frequently. If the batteries are discharged (but not discharged), a particularly tight cover may not be able to be removed. I hope to get the same performance from this replacement. UPDATE 10/25/2013. My second broke. open a can in the morning. They definitely do NOT make them what they used to be. My first was a champion; This one opened maybe 10 cans before breaking. It was good while it lasted. Bottom line: If you only open jars that aren't capped too tightly, that might be fine. But I just ordered a "manual" opener as a replacement. I'm done with "automatic" regardless of arthritis.
