Features and Comparison

This is an excellent meter in terms of both form and function. The appearance is very durable. The plastic parts feel very solid and there's a rubberized coating on the sides and dial. The dial and buttons are solid and feel very premium. I'm not an electrician, I flip houses for a living. From time to time I need a gauge to check my car's HVAC condenser, fuse integrity, blown breaker or alternator. I owned a Klein MM6000 for a very short time about a year ago. It seemed like a great gauge and worked well but I was obsessed with getting a Fluke as they are known to be the best in the business. I tend to go for the best of the best when I buy something because there is so much crap out there. Not having a great need for a gauge at the time, I returned the MM6000 and started looking around Fluke to see which one I wanted to buy. Needless to say, a year has passed and I just bought a Klein CL800. The main reason was the price. I paid $120 for this gauge from Revain and its features are on par with Fluke's $300-$500. I would say the features included in this meter are the closest to what you would get with the Fluke 375 or 376 which cost $329 and $468 respectively. The most important thing about a measuring device is of course its accuracy. This meter's specifications are said to be comparable to many current Fluke clamp meters. This meter has so many great and useful features. First off, it's TRMS. It measures AC/DC voltage up to 1000V and AC/DC current up to 600A and also works with millivolts. It tests continuity, capacitance, diodes, resistance, frequency and temperature. It has a low impedance setting, it has a flash, backlight, hold button, min/max, range and non-contact voltage detector. The non-contact voltage tester glows red when voltage is present but no beep, and it works about 6 inches from a power source such as a light switch or outlet. Some of the things I particularly like about this meter are the fact that it has a volts setting and an amps setting, and you can toggle between AC and DC with the selector button. This meter also measures millivolts, but without further adjustment. You simply set it to measure volts and it automatically selects the correct range. I also like a flashlight and a non-contact voltage detector. Most Flukes don't have these features. There is nothing about this meter that I don't like. I will mention a few things that have changed from the previous Klein Clamp Meters to the new ones. Earlier models included a non-contact sound voltage tester, slots on the back of the meter for storing cords, earlier models included a bar graph this one doesn't, and the included cords were of lower quality and didn't come with a crocodile. brackets included. These features would be a nice addition to this meter, but they're very minor compared to what it does. I have to say this is a great meter for only $120.

Pros
  • Low Impedance (LoZ) mode to identify and eliminate spurious or parasitic voltages
Cons
  • Minor problems
