Needs more info but will work

So my wife and I bought a 2010 Toyota RAV4 from the dealer but it has barely been used after 6,000 miles. The car only came with one key and when we first bought it I contacted Toyota to find out how much it would cost to add another key. They offered me $350 for the key, the process of cutting the key, and programming the key to start the ignition. Needless to say I had sticker shock at the time and decided not to buy it. Recently I started to worry about the possibility of losing a key. I found these keys on the internet and decided to give it a try even though there wasn't much information from people who had a 2010 Toyota. I got the keys in a few days and was busy learning online how to both program the door remote and create the keyword to use the ignition. I was able to program the door remotes myself using a process I found on several websites by using the key and opening and closing the doors. I then tried to program the key to work in the ignition using information I found on the internet but to no avail. I decided to contact Toyota to see how much they would charge as I already had the key so all they had to do was program it and cut it out. When a Toyota technician told me it would cost $490 to cut and program the keys, I was surprised and had serious doubts about the price. I asked him why it costs so much when it's a 10 minute process I saw online. He said it was much more difficult and sometimes took up to 2 hours. I told him I would check out some private locksmiths to see if I could get a cheaper rate. I contacted an auto mechanic who came to my house, cut the key and programmed it to work with my ignition for both keys within 15 minutes. He charged me $100 which I was happy to pay and both keys work for the doors and ignition. I ended up paying about $135 for two working spare keys, which I still think is a lot compared to what Toyota was about to charge me. I recommend these keys but remember they work on older cars so you can program them yourself but on my 2010 there was no way to do this without a special computer program.
