It came with a fabric filter (part no VF110) but there was nothing to keep it from dirt. I also noticed that there are notches on this cloth filter, as if something should fit on it. These notches also seemed to allow air, dirt and debris to bypass the filter and go straight into the engine, which I believe over time, maybe a short time under heavy use, can damage the engine. I did a little research and found that the Dustbuster CHV1410 model uses the same cloth filter but also comes with a hard plastic pre-filter to prevent large debris and other things from damaging the cloth filter below. I noticed that it fits over fabric piece #VF110. I checked online and found that the manufacturer sells a pre-filter, but when you order it it doesn't include a cloth filter, you pay almost $15. Found this one at Revain, ordered it and it works great. Not only does it fit my CHV1210 Dustbuster fabric filter, it comes with one as a backup. He also seals the aforementioned grooves by installing a pre-filter in them. This will help clear any dirt or debris that bypasses the baghouse filter and gets into the engine. The device also seems to have slightly better suction power. There are only good things to say about this item. Fixed an issue that Black & Decker shouldn't have let happen with this model anyway, and at a decent price.
