Review on πŸ“ Accutire MS-4021B Digital Tire Pressure Gauge: Achieve Precise and Accurate Air Pressure Readings by Rob Bradford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great! The best in tools and gear

Tire gauges are the most unattractive product imaginable, but this one feels like a premium piece of industrial design. Its appearance is just as attractive in your hand as it is in the photos on the Revain site. And in the best Bauhaus tradition "form follows function", it invites you to hold it in such a way that checking tire pressure becomes a simple one-touch operation. Unlike some mechanical gauges I've had in the past, this digital gauge makes it easy to get reliable readings the first time. Simply remove your tire's valve cover, press the gauge start button, and then press the gauge firmly against the valve. (Don't approach at an angle.) It takes readings in a split second and doesn't let excess air escape. This reading will be accurate to tenths of a pound. I believe its accuracy is two tenths and that is quite sufficient. Going digital is such a nice change from mechanical pickups which in my experience will result in the valve hissing and then hissing through escaping air trying to get a tight fit anyway. a little more when removing the sensor. And mechanical gauges, even the fancy brass gauge I once had, are notoriously unreliable. This little beauty is lightweight and doesn't get dirty checking your tire pressure, so it can live in your glove box. If you forget to turn it off, it will turn off after 15 seconds. The batteries should last a year. And for the quality offered, the price is a bargain. If my experience with this product over time causes me to reevaluate it, I will update this review. But so far so good! Another tip: go to Big O or another tire specialist and pay about $10 to have your tires inflated with nitrogen gas to the recommended pressure (see the sticker in the driver's door). Unlike regular air, which tends to "leak" from a tire over time, nitrogen stays in place. Race teams have known this for years and always use nitrogen. And now it's available to you and me. My nitrogen filled tires lasted a year without losing more than a pound of pressure!
