Our dog obediently took a step back with the arrival of our first child. We used to have a sonic/vibrating collar that our dog responded well to, but we couldn't find the remote control. My wife and I wanted a waterproof collar as we would be staying at the lake house with family and we needed something that would help control our puppies' jumps and keep them from running up and down nearby beaches . This collar and remote worked great! Although it has a static function, we mostly used a beep to alert it and a vibration or two when it was a little naughty. No static required. Anyway, he swam, jumped out of the boat and we were able to let him off his leash most of the weekend (with subtle reminders to stay in our yard). I spent time with our dog before we went to the lake to teach him the collar and used it a little in our fenced yard when people were passing by. I don't know if it would be a good idea to just rip it out and start honking your dog. Anyway it worked great for us, I've only charged it once since we got it two weeks ago and it works for very long distances (we have a big garden). Can't wait to test it out in the open trails and keep working on training my pup! Oh, and the sliding locking button is great for keeping the remote in your pocket or for your kid to pick it up! That must have saved our pup from grief! The ONLY negative, and it's a minor one, is that the buttons on the remote don't light up, but I knew that when I bought it and after a few weeks I had memorized the button location, although my dog needs fewer and fewer reminders . Worth buying!
