I have used various brands of suede cream including the most popular purple and yellow labels. I used Gooch Guard for the first time yesterday and was impressed, coming home from a 30 mile drive I noticed it was still where I had applied it. I've found that many other brands tend to "flush" once you start sweating. I'm only giving it 4 stars at the moment because a can of this stuff is almost the same price as an 8 ounce can of the more well known brand but only holds 4.2 ounces, about half the product. If I find that I don't have to reapply as often and that it lasts longer, I will come back and update my review. However, at the moment it's a bit pricey for what you get. Update 3/15/16: I have used this product several times now and on several long trips. My original review still stands - works well, lasts longer and doesn't wash off. I keep these things if I drive 50 miles or more and use a different, cheaper brand that works well for shorter trips. I have about 2/3 of the jar left and haven't decided yet if I'll buy more when this one runs out. My final test of this product will be when I use it in the warmer months which are just around the corner. UPDATE 5/31/2016: I have now used the Gooch Guard in both cold and hot weather. In both cases, it works well and does not wash off for long afterwards. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's expensive compared to other anti-chafing products. The question of price really comes down to whether it performs well and is durable enough to justify its price. The answer to these questions is a resounding YES! I still use my cheaper cream for short rides, but for longer 40+ mile rides I use Gooch Guard! How long does this take - I'm ready to order my second can as my existing stock is now running low. To show how happy I am with this product, I'm increasing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Update 10/17/2016: This is still my favorite suede cream. Plus, the price is now $2 off and shipping is now Prime compliant. Update 4/22/21: At the time of writing this, my cheaper source for Tier 2 Suede Cream is no longer making it and I'm using Gooch Gurad again. as my premium brand. Now, compared to a popular Swiss brand that I've tried and liked, the Gooch Guard is back at my top for both price and value. At around $6, the Gooch Guard performs as well, if not better, than its more expensive Swiss competitor. I love the menthol in this cream as it creates a soothing layer between me and the shorts and has the added benefit of preventing itchiness which can be an issue in the warmer months. The little mushrooms that make you itch don't like menthol.
