Review on πŸͺ‘ Steelcase Series 1 Office Chair with Carpet Casters in Graphite/Pumpkin - Quality and Style Combined by Leslie King

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Comfortable, easy to assemble, very overpriced

First of all: I finally returned mine for reasons that will become clear later. PROS: - Very easy to assemble (although there is a disclaimer below). Unlike many chairs that require each piece to be screwed together to assemble, this one is very simple; All parts slide or snap together, and some are already partially assembled (for example, the metal seat base that attaches to the pneumatic cylinder is already attached to the seat). The seat simply slides in and locks into place with the backrest and the armrests slide down into the holes and that's it. ATTENTION: (and the reason I brought mine back) The left hand is inserted well into the hole, but (unlike the right one) it didn't stay in place (there's a button on the bottom that you press to adjust the height). Hands). - this button did nothing on the left side). So the left hand just fell down. I had to tape it down as I had already thrown away my old chair and needed to use it until I got a replacement. The seat is very comfortable. I could have padded the seat a bit more myself as I work long hours every day on the computer editing videos and photos - the more padding the better. The adjustable lumbar support on the back is awesome. And the adjustable arms (when both work) are great. And the wheels are very handy for carpets. The maximum height is higher than most other office chairs, which is good if you have long legs or have a tall desk. You can of course omit it as you wish. CONS: - Mine was defective as mentioned. - I wish the levers could be adjusted fore and aft, not just up and down vertically - Overpriced. It was about $400 with taxes when I received it. I'm looking forward to a very, very good chair for it. I don't expect something with a major defect out of the box. The materials also didn't feel as premium as you'd expect from a $400 chair. I wish it had a leather seat, but I knew it wasn't up front. Again, it would be nice to have more seat pads. The armrests were padded, not bare plastic - INCREDIBLY hard to see. To be honest I only took it apart enough to put it in a box to return. I have no idea how to remove the hands after you put them in. It took two people to separate what little we could to put back in the box. No problem if you don't have to return it like I did. I'm giving it 3 stars (should be 2.5 but I'll round it up) because 1) it's SUPER easy to put together like no other chair I've ever bought 2) it's very good overall but 3) mine was defective and 4) it really should be a bit more premium (material for example) for a $400 item. It really looks more like a $200 chair. I ended up buying a Staples leather mid-back chair for $139.99 and while it's not as adjustable and easy to assemble, it's more comfortable and free from imperfections.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old
Cons
  • A few small things
