Review on πŸ”¨ 3M 9292 Rubber Sanding Block: Ergonomic, Versatile and Durable Sandpaper Holder by Marco Wilson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It's not worth saving about $10 compared to the 'orange' block

The 3M 'orange' block that we have is starting to wear on the edges after many hours of use too rounded to be suitable for my purposes. But the "Orange" costs about $10 more. And now I don't mind spending an extra $10 on it. This black rubber is "more brittle" than the orange one. breaks off easily; If you accidentally rub it against your work surface with the exposed part, removing the black spot(s) becomes a difficult and annoying process. And then there's the pitting that occurs: the resulting blocks had/have tiny metal shavings embedded all over the flat surface. The recommended grit is 100 grit. Removing will damage the rubber surface. This means there is a risk of them being pierced and scratched by coarse/thin backing paper. So I will only use this block for grits up to 150 and get an "orange" block for using a finer grits. Edit: I say "blocks" at the top. I only ordered 1. The 2nd was a replacement because the 1st arrived with all 4 corners and both edges chipped and also with metal embedded in the surface. Only 1 corner has broken off for replacement + metal in the surface. I suspect there are chips as only the packaging is a padded envelope, the item is just bare and a cardboard label is inserted like a piece of sandpaper. The metal had to be embedded somewhere between/during manufacture and shipping as there was nowhere to remove these pieces of metal without contaminating the product.
