This is the first time I've attempted to build a project like this and it took me about 8 hours to complete. Some of that time was met with frustration due to some errors in the instructions (another reviewer already mentioned the page 9 error). Some of that frustration was also due to my own mistakes (yeah you need to read the instructions carefully). The biggest issues I had was building the elevator/lift system. Those lifts have to be sanded and smoothed down really well for the system to work. I ended up lubricating mine with oil and loosening the side struts to lessen the friction (the only way I could get it to work). However, because I loosened the side struts, my elevators tend to lean to the side and marbles would sometimes fall over the edge. I compensated for this by adding a side arm (as seen in the video). You can also see in the video that I painted the unit. I knew that this was going to be a long project and I wanted it to be worth my time so it was my intention to make it as beautiful as possible. I used UV glow paint, however the paint was still light enough that I could see the number parts on the pieces (without being able to read them you're out of luck).I was initially afraid that the paint would interfere with the gears etc., but that's not been a problem at all. The only issue was that the paint caused the pieces to be harder to rest from the wood sheets, needless to say I broke a few pieces, but nothing some Krazy Glue could not handle. All in all I really enjoyed the building process, it was nice to see everything coming together (even with my mistakes). The added paint really makes a big difference and I would highly recommend that route to anyone thinking about it. I have ordered a motor in hopes of finding a way to automate the unit (will post a new video once I'm done with that), but for now I get a really nice sensation turning the handle and watching the gears (that I built) turn and move the marbles through the maze (its great fun turning it if yo built it yourself).Even with the issues I had I would still recommend this unit highly. (just be careful and know that you will make mistakes). Patience young Padewan. :-)
