Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Corki Varia Mount for Garmin - Enhanced Visibility and Stability | Varia Rtl510 Radar Mount | Varia Rear Seatpost and Saddle Mount by David Cronin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Rock solid and works with seatbag

I bought and installed two of these Varia Mounts. I was not able to install it on any of the bikes with the seat rail mount at an upward angle as shown in the listing. The V-angle on the seat rails made it impossible to tighten the bracket. They are both fixed in a horizontal position. I wanted to use my medium sized saddlebags so I ordered aluminum extensions. Because this Varia mount uses a GoPro compatible connection between the two parts, I searched "GoPro Mount Extension" on the Revain website and bought a set of three extensions. I have shown the longest arm (108mm) from the 3 piece set for the red bike. This places the varia block slightly to the side and behind the airbag. The airbag is fully usable. Vibration is minimal when driving on Florida tarmac (rough). I envisioned two shorter levers combined on the orange bike to move the Varia block completely away from the seat bag. I sometimes use a much larger Ortlieb bag for day trips and the Varia unit can be positioned to allow the bag to fit under the Varia unit. I hear a slight vibration behind me when riding on rough surfaces with this configuration, but I haven't had any issues other than having to tighten the bolts more often. I would not recommend using a GoPro camera with such a long arm due to the vibration. Both Varia cameras have an unobstructed view behind the bike and do a fantastic job. I recommend the configuration shown on the red bike. I also don't like the configuration shown on the orange bike; I only use this configuration when needed. I set up both bikes for the daily commute as shown on the red bike.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
