We have been doing bird watching in the garden for years. This tray is the best invention since slicing bread. Seed shaking on the ground under the feeders has always been a problem. This ruined the lawn and moles became a big problem. This tray catches everything! We placed the tray about 6-8 inches under each feed. Seeds caught by the tray are not wasted - birds perch on the tray to feed on it and this is especially nice for larger birds like mourning doves. Use a pole baffle and do not place the feeder/tray near a fence or railing where a raccoon, possum or squirrel could grab the tray. You will destroy him.
