I bought this on October 29th, 2019. I liked being able to keep the squirrels away from the feeding station. . . That's how it was until today. I guess I'll have to get some petroleum jelly and grease the rod to keep it from coming loose. It's still a great product, I really like it, but nothing will stop a squirrel except Vaseline on a pole. Vaseline is a joke. . . . giggle

I bought this to work as a squirrel deflector and to catch seeds that birds drop. He does both of these jobs. The only problem is the rain. Although there are tiny holes for drainage, the seeds will clog the holes and cause water to pool. So I put a layer of stiff wire mesh on the underside. This will hold the seeds up and allow the water to drain.

I love this tray and the birds love it too. Some people prefer to use this tray as a bird feeder. The prices seem high but Brome makes great products and I trust them and love the bird feeders too. Easy to clean. I ordered a second layer of this on a pole. Apartment in the high-rise. More birds. I don't have protein issues so it's not a problem. Cardinals prefer trays and, of course, doves. Smaller birds use all three places.

Ehh. Unfortunately it doesn't really help. The birds are still dropping seeds, and the mess is cleaned up only marginally better than if it weren't there. It's nice that morning pigeons and other larger birds can sit in and eat disposable items, but so can squirrels. It also doesn't fit the bar exactly as recommended. I bought this because sunflower pods are ruining my patio and grass and thought it would help, but it really doesn't. It should be much larger in scope.

Although I purchased this item with the Brome Feeder pictured, I use it with a different feeder as the first one doesn't drop many seeds. like a kind of bird house that has many large holes in the bottom from which the seeds fall out more often. To be honest I don't see the need for it at all with the feeder shown, but fine with those that drop a lot of seeds. I just put some seeds in it to attract more birds and THEY LOVE IT. We have been doing bird watching in the garden for years. This tray is the best invention since slicing bread. Seed shaking on the ground under the feeders has always been a problem. This ruined the lawn and moles became a big problem. This tray catches everything! We placed the tray about 6-8 inches under each feed. Bad Bad Bad. This tray has been linked to the Brome Bird Feeder on the Revain website. That does not work. This excellent tray itself is made for a 1 inch diameter rod. The brome bag has a 1 1/4 diameter rod and the tray cannot be adjusted to accommodate it. There isn't enough "meat" on the mounts to fix it. It's a shame, because the tray is a really great idea. Reviewers who enjoyed this should not have larger birds, strong wind storms and other factors stressing the connections between the four parts of this assembly. Perhaps a PhD in industrial engineering is a handicap because design and construction flaws are so obvious. I'd be embarrassed if I designed this and the student who designed it flunked it.
