I confess, I haven't bought an aquarium vacuum for over a decade. The only reason I bought it now is because my old trusty siphon cleaner died after 15 years of regular use. That being said, things have obviously changed in how people clean their tanks! This air purifier has some notable improvements and features over my late air purifier, and my only concern is that it's nowhere near as "rugged" in construction as the old trusty one. While I can't use this cleaner for like 15 years, I will happily use it as long as it lasts. The best thing about this cleaner for me is the pump suction. Anyone who has had to submerge an entire mile of vacuum cleaner hose in water will immediately realize how amazing this feature/improvement is. Then a suction cup so you can get away by pumping the water out of the tank? Brilliant. This cleaner even has a nozzle (! options!) to switch on the type of medium to be cleaned. Finally, the flow control on the first lap almost blew my mind. I will say that if you have never used a purifier like this before and have just come out from under the rock with your prehistoric purifier, set the flow to the most limited. This makes it the closest thing you can get to your old, trusty vacuum and the learning curve can begin. While this vacuum seems to be made of a much lighter plastic than my old one and the hose from the tank isn't as long (putting a waste-water bucket on a chair is an instant fix that your back will thank you for), no it is amazing to have to deal with full immersion and to have options.
