I have admired the work of Charles Wysotsky for many years. I collected a few prints, bought a lot of calendars and puzzles, and sewed various types of crafts according to his sketches. I was hoping for a coloring book and just found this one (yes I did because it was hidden in the stationery and not in the middle of the coloring book). The book is very well made with high quality paper. The cover shows a partial "finished" colorization of the design that looks more digital than it actually is. Figures are printed on one side of the page, and the title of the illustration is on the back of the same page. This is great as they stay together when you remove the pages from the book. I'll list the included designs (in order of appearance) in the comments section below for anyone interested. The design is based on paintings by Mr. Vysotsky in America. I was very lucky to find some of my favorites including Peppercricket Farms, Four Aces Flying School and more. The designs are mostly detailed and some have complex and small elements. This is a great book for anyone who likes Mr. Vysotsky's work or likes American coloring scenes. Here's what I experienced while coloring this book and testing different dyes on paper: 46 detailed Americana scenes based on famous works of art. by Charles WysockiSketches are printed on one side of the page (with titles on the back)Medium weight paper, white, somewhat smooth and perforatedPerforated bindingSketches do not disappear behind perforationsAll design areas are easily accessible for coloring, even with the pages still in the book. Alcohol-based markers bleed through paper quickly. Water-based markers, except for the tombows at the end of the brush, bleed through in small patches. The ends of the Tombows brushes didn't bleed at all, although the thin tip showed through. India ink showed more than water-based markers. Gel pens did not bleed, but lighter and darker colors left colorful shadows on the back of the page. Colored pencils work very well with this paper. It has enough teeth on the side to capture pigment well and allow you to layer the same color for deep pigment. I was able to work with oil and wax pencils and get good results. Layering multiple colors and blending them with a pencil-style blending stick worked equally well. I currently keep my pages together, so I use a cardboard eraser page under my work page. This will prevent bleed ink from smearing the bottom pages.
