This is a cute toy with some basic educational games. Scanning is a little weird because you have to place the scanner directly on the item and then it sticks to it with a magnet. At first we just wanted to point the scanner at the food, but you really need to point the scanner directly at it. Once we get the hang of it, it works great. And it still beeps even if you use it with other toys. It is convenient to use as a game store, even in addition to the simple games that are included. My 3 year old played the included games for a day or two but since then she and her sister have been running the store and using it to shop every day. . They had a kitchen that they mainly used for cooking, but now they've converted some of their shelves into a shop. It really helped expand their creative play. We love it!
