I was a little apprehensive about this setup on my mountain bike stem. I have the 34- mm outside diameter measured which is the usual size mountain bikes where it is the clamps there are 2 removable plastic pieces (no rubber) that you can take out so it fits perfectly the question wasn't the width between the bolts but the Screws...not long enough to reach unless you pull out the standoffs.While the illustrated instructions (no words) don't tell you to, I think you should be fine.
