Review on πŸ”§ Makita XVJ01Z 18V LXT Barrel Grip Jig Saw with Brushless Technology by Aaron Clayton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No longer working on power tool parts and accessories

Unfortunately this unit stopped working after about 2.5 months. Looks like a short as the LED light just came on and wouldn't turn off and the saw wasn't working. Removed the battery for 24 hours just in case and replaced with another battery (both batteries worked when I tested them in my Makita impact wrench so I know they're good). It doesn't matter - the LED lights up and the saw does not turn on. Sent it back to Revain for a refund. I've never had a problem with Makita tools, so I'll write it off as a coincidence. About the product itself: PROS: - Worked well and was useful for a long time Smallest 1.0A battery - Highly adaptable for many different uses - Powerful enough to cut OSB, polycarbonate, lumber, etc. CONS: - I thought I wouldn't mind setting up a button (button 1: lock/unlock, button 2: activate) instead of a trigger, but it was annoying, mostly because the button layout wasn't easy to "blind" and to find the saw Keep working until you press the button again, which can be dangerous if you drop the button. thing while cutting a vertical face. I'd say at least buttons on both sides, so that's good. Although the "slope" is adjustable and most of the time it automatically detects when you actually start cutting maybe 10-20% of the time. It doesn't recognize anything and doesn't zoom in. It's configurable, but while you're out in the cold trying to work, this isn't the best time to try to figure it out. Bottom line: Possibly a good block, brushless motor etc, but a) mine died completely and b) I would have really preferred a different, more intuitive activation mechanism (maybe a button to lock/unlock, but a trigger to run the instrument). ?).
