Review on Irwin Tools Blue Blade Bi-Metal Utility Blade, 20-Pack: Top-Quality Cutting Performance by Jeff Wyble

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This is a versatile blade.

Yes, Irwin blades are better quality than the unnamed POS blades that come in a 1247 blade set for the same price. But the same goes for DeWalts and Milwaukee blades. And like DeWalts and Milwaukee blades, the Irwins dispenser sucks pretty much the same. The thing is, it just depends on what you want to do with your utility blade. I would say if you basically cut boxes and plastic all day, spend the money and buy these blades. Should you cut carpet and drywall? These actions will destroy any blade, regardless of brand or quality, in a matter of hours. For demo work? I don't think it's worth it. Come with an untitled pack of 1247. I carry my little Gerber foldable for simple things (cardboard, plastic, whatever the day throws at me) and these blades did the trick for me. I have a Milwaukee Serious Utility Knife that I use for real destruction no matter what blade I put in it. They all end up in the trash. Hope that helps. And yes, it's true - the dispenser sucks.

Pros
  • pack of 20 blades
Cons
  • ill thought out
