absolutely hate it!

I just rode it cross country to pull the fifth wheel and I'm not happy with it at all. If I didn't spend all my time driving, I'd rip this thing out of my truck, throw it out the window, and just drive with no brakes. I only gave 2 stars because I like the idea, but 2 stars is definitely overrated for that. The first problem I had was that it wasn't adjustable, I could press the button 10 times and out of those 10 times I was maybe able to set the dial once and even then I'm not sure if it regulated it or not did he regulate. because nothing seemed to change. I figured I'd just limp about 2600 miles and manually push it to engage the trailer brakes every time I need to stop, but you can't do that either if the foot brakes on your truck are manually applied. Brake controller not working, why should you? It should have made sense to someone who didn't make sense. Then, as we were going down a steep incline on I80 in Salt Lake City, my wife, who had been following us, called me on the radio and said the trailer tires were smoking. I looked at the brake control knob and all the red lights came on, although I didn't even press the brake pedal, it locked up and held my brakes at full power. Also, there's no way to test this thing to make sure it works at all! Before leaving I installed and adjusted all new trailer brake hubs and bearings. I picked up the wheel, spun the trailer tire and my wife hit the brake pedal, but nothing. I called Kurt's tech support and thought they wouldn't work and he said they felt like the truck going to work and there's no way to test them, another design element that makes sense to the same man made that made no sense. I wish I had seen this sooner but when I was looking for troubleshooting information there was a tech support article on eTrailer that said Kurt's brake controls are notorious for internal electronic problems, they were absolutely right. I've had it for too long before I had a chance to use it and found getting it back didn't work, so I'm now stuck with a beautiful, very expensive controller that is absolute junk.

Pros
  • Durable Test Results
Cons
  • Slightly torn
