Everyone says 14 gauge wire in 15 amp circuit. Well I found 12 gauge wire in my 15 amp circuit. That means the 15A backstab recipes I bought with only 14 gauge holes won't work. Here's what I found. There are a few 15 amp recipes that don't have backstabs, but you can insert the wire into the compression plate under the regular screw, like you would with a backstab. It fits any wire size and has no backstab holes. It works out. And the thing is, some longer 15 amp circuits use 12 gauge wire (from what I've read) to avoid voltage or current loss due to run length. So before you buy a plug, check the cord—even if you're replacing a 15-amp plug, it could be a 12-gauge cord. And those child-proof plugs are a headache—everything I've seen, not just this one Brand.
