I also bought a 50lb spring to go with it, put the spring under the outer cup (which the tube attaches to) then you get an idea of how much pressure is being applied. If you half compress the spring 50 pounds you get about 30 pounds, 3/4 of the way is 40 pounds. These numbers are mostly made up, but you can put a scale under them and measure them. In any case, you get constant pressure between the presses with the help of a spring. Otherwise, the press is beautiful, durable, easy to maintain and inexpensive. Of course you can also build it yourself, but for a little more pocket money this is the closest thing to it.
