Review on 💻 QNA-UC5G1T: USB 3.0 Type-C to 5GbE Adapter by Andrew Grant

When I first received the device, I was amazed. Finally something faster than 1 gigabit. I have no idea why the ethernet controller market is growing so slowly when the amount of data is getting so big, but that's how it is now. I was able to get a 5 Gigabit connection by plugging it into a generic 10GBE Ethernet SFP+ in a Mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN. However, after a year the connection started to hang. The adapter continues to report the connection, but no data is transmitted over it. There was more and more of that. I now average about 30 minutes of intensive data transfer before it crashes. I have to disconnect and reconnect it to get it working again. It's basically useless for the only thing it's supposed to do: fast, steady passes. It also gets very hot just from some simple little gears. I tried to cool it with a fan aimed at it. The body only gets warm, but connection problems remain. No drivers, no ports, no cables, no operating system, no machines will solve the problem. Other 10GBE and 1GBE adapters will work with the same adapter and SFP+ cable. If you're thinking of buying one for a NAS, you're making a terrible mistake. Imagine you are transferring a bunch of files and suddenly everything stops. This put me off buying QNAP products and I will never touch anything with this Aquantia chip again. If it can work in your workflow, buy a PCIE card or Thunderbolt adapter instead. Finally, please note that this seems to be a common issue with other customers facing the same issue. This product is deeply flawed and should not even be sold.
