Review on πŸ“· Amcrest UltraHD 5MP Outdoor POE Camera: High-Definition Bullet IP Security Camera with Waterproof Design, Wide Viewing Angle, and Powerful Night Vision by Andrew Burnside

Quality camera with great picture

I have installed over 20 Amcrest units and about 10 other types of units. I prefer Amcrest for the image quality, build quality and durability. I have attached some footage taken with the 5MP UltraHD Outdoor POE Camera 2592 x 1944p both during the day and at night in conditions that show the quality of the camera. Both day and night shots are exceptional. These cameras support integrated POE with the ability to receive power from a wall outlet. They contain the necessary equipment for Category 5 waterproof cables. The housing and base of the camera are made of die-cast metal and feature a single hex head screw for easy positioning of the camera. Once the screw is tightened, the camera doesn't move even in 40mph winds. (no vibration) The NIGHT headlight doesn't have a red glow like my old "anti-vandal" Amcrest; So you can't see it at night unless you know where to look. The lens and light source share the same optics, but the lens adheres to the glass, eliminating ghost images caused by internal reflection. In addition, the wavelength of this light does not attract insects. As you can see from the picture, night vision is almost like far infrared. Both shots are from a screenshot of the video taken in the rain at night. Video Clarity shows a solid 25 fps for my NVR and also supports backup recording on the camera itself. This camera doesn't require a special Amcrest plugin to access it, making it a lot better than its older offerings. Motion detection is pretty standard too, it's very sensitive which can be annoying, but if you're using an NVR you can set zones and adjust your own sensitivity. The camera may also have a way of setting up zones, which I haven't tested. Amcrest offers an app that allows you to view the camera on Android and iPhone at no additional cost. You'll have to drill a hole in your firewall if you don't use their cloud service. (which I don't know) I will be buying more of these cameras in the future as I find their price and performance are second to none.

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
