This sharpener really lets you sharpen a pencil in less than 4 seconds, no exaggeration. There are two modes: a sharpen mode and a dimmer mode. The dimmer mode isn't really boring, it just doesn't sharpen the tip very much, and I've found that it actually stops your pen once it's sharpened so you don't keep turning and munching on a sharpened pencil. Guess if you want to extend the life of your pencil and use the "sharper" mode, just don't go crazy and check it every few turns, or just stick with the "dimmer"
