Other reviews have complained that the base cannot be tightened. My mirror came with instructions so I've attached a picture of it. In summary: you need to remove the foam insert at the bottom of the base. Then screw the base onto the shaft. Remove the sticker from the foam and reattach it to the base. Good quality mirror that I am satisfied with.
