I have been using Maxtor external hard drives for a little over a year and have recommended them to my family and co-workers which has resulted in them buying many of them as well. So, having experience with almost a dozen hard drives, we've had no problems and have nothing but praise for the drives. (IEEE1394) is a great option. These hard drives use both FireWire and USB, so you can record and share information between multiple computers (like a flash drive) or leave them plugged into one computer to use as an extra hard drive. I noticed almost no difference in speed when accessing files on an external hard drive and on an internal hard drive. The automatic backup function makes the hard drive even more useful. It comes with Dantz Retrospect Express, an easy-to-use option that lets you automatically back up whatever you want with the click of a button. I do backups a lot, usually I just push a button when I go to a client meeting. Usually the automatic process is complete when I come back. Because backups are so easy to create, when I lost a hard drive on one of my laptops, I hardly missed a beat after replacing it by simply restoring the disk image so my new laptop looked exactly like my old one . I highly recommend Maxtor external hard drives.
