Huge storage, fast access seems to hold up

For those who need MASSIVE storage, it's time to upgrade to 120 gigabytes! Depending on what type of user you are, this drive is just great. If you're planning on maybe getting online and using your computer to write documents or pay taxes, you probably don't need that big of a drive. But for hardcore users, this drive is for you. I actually migrated to this drive from an 80GB drive that I was constantly tapping on. I'm running Windows XP on a partition with Red Hat Linux 8.0. Each OS…

Great option for laptops!

I have been using Maxtor external hard drives for a little over a year and have recommended them to my family and co-workers which has resulted in them buying many of them as well. So, having experience with almost a dozen hard drives, we've had no problems and have nothing but praise for the drives. (IEEE1394) is a great option. These hard drives use both FireWire and USB, so you can record and share information between multiple computers (like a flash drive) or leave them plugged into one…

Increased from 25 gigs to 120 gigs.

I bought this to upgrade my G4 Power PC which has a 120GB hard drive limit. Installation was a bit tricky due to Mac internals. Now he has 120 gigs versus 25 gigs. PowerPC also has a workaround so you can install larger disks if you're using 3rd party software or hacking something in OlS.

Maxtor Hard Drive is good for data storage

I bought this hard drive but did not use it as the problem with my computer was not a faulty hard drive. However, the hard drive that originally came with my now defunct computer was a Maxtor 80GB hard drive, which has always worked flawlessly. It still works. A few years ago I bought a 500GB hard drive to install as a secondary drive and that was also a Maxtor. It worked flawlessly and still works today. I will not hesitate to use a Maxtor product. The problem is that they were purchased from…

Good drive, bad software

If you need to migrate an existing Win XP drive to a new Maxtor drive, forget it if you rely on the software that came with it. You need to buy a copy of Norton Ghost. It's a lot quieter than the WD Caviar I used. It is not yet clear whether this will happen so quickly. But the real cost to me was the disastrous MaxBlaster software which will NOT make a copy of your old hard drive if Win XP is installed on it. As another reviewer says, it hangs at 90% during the copying process (about 4 hours…
