These LED bulbs are a much brighter directional version of the 168 wedge base bulb. The LEDs are all located at the end of the bulb like a flashlight so they emit very bright light directly from the top of the bulb (not around the perimeter like a lightbulb with a glass dome). So far I've used them to replace the stock headlight bulbs on our 2008 and 2013 Prius. They emit bright white light and are very bright. They give off a much brighter and more pleasing light than the yellow cast of traditional incandescent bulbs. As often mentioned, the wedge-shaped base of the LED bulb has two symmetrical pins, but one polarity: if the LED bulb doesn't light up when you first plug it in, flip it over and plug it in the opposite direction and it should light up. . I haven't had a single broken bulb yet.
