SKIMMER ONLY WORKS AFTER MODIFICATION. I bought it as a skimmer. IT WILL NOT WORK IMMEDIATELY. It's too light and doesn't absorb water because it floats too much. I took a butter knife and heated it on the stove and had to create HALF UP ribs on the bottom half of the cup to reduce the air bubbles keeping the slotted spoon afloat. After modification, it works smoothly. I'm very glad I didn't have to pay for an expensive skimmer. I hope this review helps those who need a skimmer. I also took a butter knife and deepened the existing ridges on the top half of the cup to allow more water to pass through.
