I have a Subaru with a retractable cup holder on the dash in a convenient spot for a phone, but I wasn't sure a cup holder would be strong enough. I bet it, and the result is pretty good - it won't cope with the terrain, but it will be fine for normal driving. See photo. It is worth noting that the adjustable base extends outward in two directions instead of four (so it becomes an oval rather than a circle). It works great in my cup holder as I can stretch it to the full width of the cup holder and then slide the holder back in until it's tight enough. (Warning: I was careful not to extend the base past the point where it was just beginning to fit snugly, as I could easily see it breaking my very light cup holder.) Also, I can confirm that hands banging under the volume rocker on the phone Moto X 2nd gen which is a problem for some other holders. Specifically, the top of the temples touches the phone about 6.5cm above the bottom of the phone. So if your controls are higher, you should be fine. will rotate relative to the base, but it doesn't appear; but most often this can be overcome with a combination of having the person rotate the neck at right angles and rotating the face plate. Finally, with the Moto x, I find that the regular grip puts my hands in a position that grips the phone well enough that it doesn't fall out with its legs, but not tight. I agree - in fact I can just lift the phone from the top and lower it that way instead of fiddling with the unlock button. Harder compression gives another click and then it stays tight if that's what you prefer, but it does require a bit of compression and I doubt how long the device can sustain this on a daily basis. Aesthetically, it's fairly clean and unremarkable. For the price (currently around ten dollars here) it definitely gets five stars.
