The center strip is wide, about 4.5 inches, which connects to the squeegee holder. It's usually only about an inch. The good thing is that it stays stable in the mop frame. The actual length of the mop head is a little shorter than I thought it would be, 11-12 inches long on each side compared to the 14 inches I usually use (but the size I bought was average). The mop is very absorbent and more powerful than a long mop and is also slightly lighter. Both ends of the mop head have strong end straps that prevent the mop from coming loose, especially when washing in the washing machine. Overall I like it and will buy more.
