Review on Cisco Linksys WET11 Wireless Ethernet Bridge by Joel Mosqueda

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent wireless bridge between 802.11b WiFi and Ethernet

I am very impressed with WET11. It's basically an Ethernet to wireless adapter that just works. Unlike bridges, including Linksys WAP11 v2.2, it looks like a regular wireless client to an existing wireless network. So you can use it with *any* 802.11b (WiFi) base station without having to configure that base station in a special mode to create a bridge. The Linksys WAP11, on the other hand, can only connect to other WAP11s. In my network, the WAP11 is an Apple Airport (Graphite) wireless client. I set up WAP11, connected it to my remote network device and everything worked fine. WAP11 is surprisingly small - little more than a deck of cards. The power cord transformer (wall wart) is also small. It does not cover multiple sockets on a power strip like most electronic devices do. With its current number of one hundred and five, I can only recommend it. The WAP11 has an Ethernet port (of course) with a cross switch. The cross switch means you can connect directly to another Ethernet device (PC, Xbox, etc.) without using a hub. Very nice touch. -- Pat/zippy at cs.brandeis.edu
