I used Aquaclear 50 in a 20g tank with long plants. Being old school, carbon was a staple in my world of fish farming, although I ended up with a zero-carbon setup. I was having issues with floating material in my tank and decided to buy some old blue and white filament for my tank. In the filler I have a suction sponge, a foam block, two pieces of thread and a biocarrier. After a few hours I now have a crystal clear aquarium with clear water. The first part gets a bit messy and usually only lasts a week. While I'm sure you can wash and reuse them, they tend to fall apart when you wash them, so I've just given up. The mat sold here should last more than a reasonable amount of time so cutting a new piece works fine (some of the good bacteria is lost when replacing). If you require clean water or a planted aquarium and want a carbon-free polish, this is highly recommended.
