Yes, this only works to connect a stereo receiver with RCA input to a 2016 Samsung KS 8000 UHD TV. which has no cinch cable output! Those were exactly the words I was looking for as I was trying to figure out which converter to buy from dozens of options and countless obvious problems as to whether it was outputting 5.1 audio or Dolby Digital to a 2-channel receiver could decode. MY GOD. Guess what this machine can do via the optical port. But the general question of what works with which TV is very confusing to the layperson! So this TV has a Dolby Digital 5.1 output. And the "Optical out" option works: maybe this port doesn't send Dolby signal? I do not know. It's pretty simple: the optical output with optical cables connects to the TV side of the converter, and the RCA cables from the receiver connect to the opposite side of the converter. I had to fiddle with the TV settings and this is probably the hardest part, here's what worked: Go to Settings - Sound - select Speakers=Audio Out/Optical - then - Expert Setup - - HDMI Audio Format=" Bitstream” --- Audio format = "PCM”. That should work! This is a good quality small device. And they offer a 30-day return and 24-hour customer service (which I don't need). Most of the time it works though and I don't have to buy a soundbar or bluetooth speakers so I'm happy!
