SMOOTH SAIL IF YOU CONNECT THE RODS ON THE RIGHT!

Whichever troll collected rods the way they made them when they were boxed is the cause of most of the problems and all of the bad reviews this product gets. Nuts as soon as you do! The bars were sent to me with one large end (2nd photo of bar) and another flat end on the opposite end (3rd photo of bar) so I expected it to be pretty much plug and play. Right? I spent at least 10 minutes fitting the flat side (3rd shot of the bar) into the smaller holes on the shelf and it kept falling out (and that clinking sound really gets stuck in your brain every time it falls apart ). I've collected similar products before - it's not rocket science! - and it was annoying. I even had my friend's help and even he said "forget this crappy product". After almost giving up I disassembled the bars, turned them over so the flat part (3rd photo of the bar) was inside and the smallest part (1st photo of the rod). ) was opposite the largest and lowest, and lo and behold, success! So, for anyone struggling and wondering how the shoe rack is your fall of the day: **The flat part of the bar should be inside the big bar to prevent this. from excessive expansion and decay! ****If the sticks can split in two when you pull them, you'll need to take them apart, turn them flat side in and try again** Hope this helps someone! The product is great, strong and works magic! I bought 2 packs and stacked 1.5 shelves to accommodate more shoes. Definitely recommended for small cupboards in old buildings :) only deducted 1 star because of initial disappointment! definitely costs $$
