Review on Nikon D3100 DSLR Camera with Auto Focus-S Nikkor Zoom Lens (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Chiyo Ogawa ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High-quality product, the price corresponds to the quality.

I took a gray whale 18-55 vr, it turned out 50 bucks cheaper and the guarantee is only a year. Then I bought 55-200 vr. My first SLR. Absolutely satisfied with everything. Disadvantages are certainly present, but shooting conditions are rare are such that it can be seen. In extreme cases, you just have to spend a little more effort on some things, for example, instead of exposure bracketing, do HDRku programmatically from RAW or twist a polarizing filter manually after focusing. In short, after the soap box - it's heaven and earth. If you have a little bit of artistic taste and minimal knowledge of image processing programs, you can take great photos that are not inferior to expensive DSLRs. Some of my examples are under the cut.

Pros
  • Price. Perhaps this is the best of the virtues. Video in Full HD - not every DSLR has such a function, however, some do not need it at all. The VR vibration reduction technology in the Kit lens is a very worthy thing. It was possible to shoot clear photos even at a shutter speed of more than 1/10. High ISOs work well, except for what I added to the shortcomings, fast and accurate focusing, ultrasonic sensor cleaning, Guide mode for beginners (you simply select the shooting conditions step by step, and the camera automatically selects the settings).
Cons
  • Compared to CCD matrices, colors still lose a little, although the developers claim the opposite. In the dark areas of the image at high ISO (3200+), the image is very noisy, this is noticeable at night photographs. The viewing screen does not rotate, it is especially inconvenient when you have to shoot from extremely low or high angles. Live View mode drains the battery a lot. When shooting video, an unpleasant Rolling Shutter effect occurs, which is inherent in all devices with a CMOS matrix, which is expressed by distortion when the camera moves quickly or removed objects. Along with the video, the unpleasant noise of the lens focusing motor is also recorded. Many people complain about the small screen, but I did not notice any particular inconvenience, the photo can be zoomed in to an incredible scale and the image will be clear, but the histogram will not tell you anything about losses in the picture. An 18-55 lens with a rotating front lens that makes it difficult to use some filters. There are no HDMI or USB cables in the kit, the disadvantage is small, maybe. I went to the market and bought a Chinese one for 30 UAH, but it's still unpleasant. The lack of a focusing motor in the body is no longer a drawback, there is a whole series of lenses with built-in motors, but there is no vibration suppressor in the body itself, I personally had to shoot in the direct focus of the telescope, without a lens, but this is probably also not significant, it’s very rare the phenomenon of doing it.
