Review on KitchenAid KGM Metal Grain Attachment by Cameron Aleman

Great wheat mill, works well, makes very fine flour.

I have used this mill several times to grind durum and durum wheat; it worked flawlessly in my Artisan 5-qt Kitchen Aid Blender. The flour I grind seems to be as fine as professionally ground flour, with a little more grinding variation, but perfect for baking. A few notes/tips for use: - The blender gets hot during operation and can get quite hot when grinding whole grains to fine tuning; I ran mine in batches just to be on the safe side. My mixer is over 11 years old with original gears; I repackaged lube about 4 years ago. (The kitchen grinder installation guide says you shouldn't make more than 10 cups without letting the blender sit for 45 minutes). - I ran batches at 5 cup intervals because I skipped the same grain twice for best results. I highly recommend skipping the grain with the coarse setting and then skipping it again with the fine setting. Using this method, at the finest setting, I have obtained a consistency and fineness of grind that is almost identical to professional ground flour. It also allows the blender to run a little cooler and not work as hard. It runs faster than I expected and also a lot quieter than I expected. Some reviews said it's very noisy, although loud (grinds hard grain) you can still have a conversation while standing at the mixer. I also ground flour while the kids slept upstairs and didn't even notice. Another great product from Kitchen Aid that I would recommend to anyone who wants to easily grind flour at home.
